Getaway #28: Lara Russi
Lara Russi chose this Sunday’s getaway destination.*)
– Imagine playing a ball game. It’s always tempting to show off, being the fastest to catch, throwing the ball further than anyone else, or hiding the ball refusing to play it back. Lara and I met at a theory seminar. It was very much like a ball game. We played with books, tossing around chunks of written language. The way someone might pick up the ball, Lara picked up bits of language someone had tossed high and way too far; she picked up an idea someone had caught and dropped, the loose end of a storyline that had rolled just before her feet.
Writing this at the seaside with my pockets full of shells, picking up things that you find in front of your toes seems quite a common technique. Back in Zurich where the air is saturated with words, stories, symbols, images tossed high and far with competitive fervor, this technique does not seem common at all. –
